The Most Frequently Asked Questions About Working with an Interior Designer

If you’re planning on doing a remodeling or construction project, working with an interior designer is one of the first things you need to consider. Your designer’s role is to liaise between your contractors and guarantee the best possible solutions for your space.

Other important factors to consider when bringing a designer on board are:

  • Designers help you set a realistic budget for your space and provide an accurate timeline for the project’s completion.
  • You can also have peace of mind knowing your decisions are the right ones for your room, saving you time and money and ending up in the buy and return game.
  • You have someone who will help you solve any inconveniences or problems that may arise along the way.
  • You’ll have a cohesive design, which means everything will fall into place. You won’t have mismatched or oversized elements that don’t align with your design style.
  • Lastly, designers provide a tailored experience from start to finish. They focus on your needs and wants and work to transform your rooms into functional spaces and long-lasting designs.

With all this being said, adding a designer to your project can save you time, money, and stress, so if you’re ready to get a unique experience and a home to love, inquire about our services today.

If this is your first time working with a designer, I’m going to unveil the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about our job and what to expect:

  1. Do you have contractors you work with?
  2. How do you price? Hourly or flat fee?
  3. What if we don't like what you've presented?
  4. Can we use any of our existing furnishings in a design project?
  5. Where do you source furnishings?

Let’s jump into each one in detail.

The Most Frequently Asked Questions About Working with an Interior Designer

1. Do You Have Contractors You Work With?

Yes, we work with different contractors who specialize in different areas - which makes a great difference!  Our contractors are highly skilled and trustworthy, and when we start working with our clients, we can either recommend them for you to hire for the job or, if you know someone that you trust and have worked with in the past, we will consider that for the project.

The most important thing is knowing that your designer will work with your contractor to make your design goal a reality.

In our Cozy Family Sanctuary Project, we worked with our client’s contractor to provide the finish and material selections for the bathroom, which made a complete difference and transformed it into a modern spa look.

2. How Do You Price? Hourly or Flat Fee?

We charge our clients a flat fee based on our hourly rate, which varies depending on the scope and details of their project—no two are exactly alike. We decide how many hours the project will take and present that to our client. Typically, furnishings projects start at $4000 per space, and renovations begin at $5000 per space.

I want to mention that if you have multiple rooms, you will also save some money, as you get multiple rooms for the price of one designer.

It’s the best investment that will upgrade the look and feel of your home!

3. What If We Don't Like What You've Presented?

We work hard to ensure you’ll love the design. Our process starts with a kickoff meeting where we dive deep into your style preferences, likes, and dislikes. We’ve never had a client dislike an entire presentation, but we include a round of revisions for added peace of mind.

Sometimes, there are one or two pieces we’ll swap out, but our clients are always thrilled with the final look and result.

4. Can We Use Our Existing Furnishings in a Design Project?

Yes, we love to use our clients' existing furnishings in a project if possible. However, we can’t guarantee that every piece will fit perfectly with the new design. It depends on the look and feel we’re going for, and we’ll be honest about what will work best for your room.

5. Where Do You Source Furnishings?

Some furnishings we select are custom-made to fit your style and needs. We maintain strong relationships with many trusted wholesale vendors in our industry, whom we’ve met and whose personalized experiences we get a sense of by attending High Point.

This hands-on approach ensures we’re familiar with the quality of our offer, allowing our clients to access unique pieces that stand out far beyond what’s available in retail stores.

We often incorporate custom furnishings into our designs, enhancing each space's individuality and character.

For example, in our Modern Transitional Living Room Project, we sourced a coffee table that serves its purpose without wasting too much space. Notice how the curves mimic the shape of the piano. That was an intentional decision. These are the decisions that are worth it when working with a designer!
