I love the quote, “Be faithful to your own taste because nothing you really like is ever out of style.” After all, it is a reminder that despite getting targeted or influenced on social media about the things we should try, sticking to our roots and knowing what we love is the foundation of true happiness.
In Interior Design,
we consider your tastes and preferences as the first step to making a project successful.
Your home should reflect your personality and lifestyle.
So if you’ve been feeling like your home doesn’t show who you are as a family, or you feel a disconnect in each one of the rooms, stick around. I’ll share some tips and guidelines to connect all the dots and make your home a place you'll love.
Sure, trends are fabulous, and they look great in that magazine or Pinterest board, but when it comes to your space, perhaps they may not be the best choice.
My advice is to start making a list of the things you need vs. what you want; that way, you establish priorities. It will allow you to make smarter decisions without being influenced by trends. Consider what pieces, furniture, and accessories speak to you. Do you prefer a timeless design, or are you up to adding dark, bold colors to your home? Knowing yourself will help you make accurate decisions when it comes to decorating your home.
Every home has their key pieces.
In this project, I suggested my clients keep the leather club chairs since they are classic and add warmth to the space. The room now feels balanced and inviting, don't you think?
When families evolve, so should our spaces. Especially when our priorities change and the children are getting older, renovation is crucial for a home to reflect your current style. Another thing to consider are your hobbies. What do you like to do when you’re home? Watch TV and read, play with the kids, or perhaps you have a craft corner and like to be creative. Considering your hobbies, allow yourself to design a home that reflects your lifestyle and therefore, makes you feel comfortable.
Plus, having a home that you love can be a significant impact on your mood. Can you imagine getting off work and bringing the kids to a place you don’t feel your own? You may end up feeling bitter or just frustrated. But when you have a place decorated according with your style, you feel special and relaxed every time.
In this project, my client wanted their bedroom to become an oasis of tranquility.
We switched from a bedroom for the whole family to a modern place to rest and heal. What’s your favorite thing about this remodel? Comment below!
Each color has a meaning and importance. Adding your favorite colors to your home will make it a fun place to be. Whether you prefer a neutral palette filled with classical whites and greys, or a bolder one, with moody colors, they will make you feel energized to perform the activity in each room.
Do this exercise. Stand at the room's door and see if it feels warm or inviting. Does it promote peace and calm or clutter and chaos? Then, think about three things you’d like to change and write them down. Knowing your goals will help you identify the changes to make and how to feel better about your space in no time.
I remember this in the case of my home office. Before my home office makeover, I felt so uninspired that I didn't even want to walk into this room, and I would just close the doors. Honestly, I preferred working on my dining room table. So when I decided to remodel, my goal was to create an organized work space that inspired creativity and productivity. Now, I love a space I get to call my own, and I'm more productive than ever!
Start writing that list of things you’d like to change in your home and book a call with me to help you come up with a plan and guidance to transform your home into a place you’ll love.
