Remember when fall colors were all the rage back in the early 2000s? Then everyone enthusiastically jumped on board with the color gray. Have you noticed how black and white is starting to take over? Trends. They come and they go. Let’s talk about how to achieve a classic and timeless home decor style.
I love to update my home and change it up from time to time. However, I don’t love changing out my big-ticket items every 10 years because that’s about how long the home decor trends last. So, what does one do?
HOME DECOR COLOR TRENDS OVER THE YEARS
You’ll see these color trends mainly in kitchens and baths. Let’s start with the 80s! The 1980s decade was a mix of pastels, white stained oak and forest green. The 1990s was full of sage green, orange, pink-beige, gold and rust. Then came the Tuscan era of the 2000s, which consisted of deep orange, Old World style and lots of dark brown. We were all delighted when gray took the stage around 2010 to lighten things up a bit, and that included farmhouse style and accent tile. Enter 2020 with the black and white trend mixed with natural wood tones and black fixtures.

Were you surprised that we are moving out of the gray trend? Don’t worry, it will take a while before it’s completely out. Here’s the key: Don’t. Over. Do It, but also Do It If You Love It.
For example, when you take a trend, such as the color gray and use it everywhere it will definitely say “this kitchen or bath is from 2015.” I can instantly pick out the kitchens that were done in the Tuscan era of the year 2000.
"Just remember: 1. Do it if you love it and 2. Don’t overdo it"
HOW TO ACHIEVE A CLASSIC AND TIMELESS HOME DECOR STYLE
There are things you want to choose carefully when building or remodeling a home such as your flooring, tile, plumbing fixtures, and counter tops because it’s not easy to change these out.
Personally, black and white never goes out of style. You can see that in the fashion industry. This lovely bathroom is tastefully done in black and white.
White kitchens and subway tile are also always in style, even though they were trending for a long time. If you have a kitchen that needs a face-lift, check out how to modernize a traditional kitchen for some ideas.
Light to medium brown hardwood flooring is timeless, just like a pair of blue jeans.
Chrome bathroom fixtures have and will always be around.
