Are you stuck at home wondering what you can do to spruce up your home? Maybe you just want a small change, an easy DIY or an idea that doesn’t cost anything. I’m here to give you 5 easy ways to update your home now.
I thought I would start a series of articles on updating your home. I will start with the basics today and then add a specific room each week. You can start doing any of these at any time of the year.

DE-CLUTTER
This is the first task of any project when updating a space. I start by walking through each room with a laundry basket and collecting the items that are no longer loved or used. Sometimes these items need to be given to someone else to be loved. Or perhaps they are well passed their prime and need to be thrown away. Make 3 piles for each room: donate, keep & garbage. There is a local organization in my town that accepts items for a women and children’s shelter where all of my donations go. Find a place you would like to donate.
I find that sometimes we hang on to things for memories. Maybe it’s ok to take a picture of it? Just because we get rid of something doesn’t mean we are getting rid of the memory.
This is actually my favorite book when it comes to de-cluttering and organizing. She has some very good tips!
ORGANIZE
After sorting through your items, it’s time to organize the ones you are keeping. First, pull everything out of that drawer or cabinet or closet.
Give it a good cleaning, whether it’s a drawer, cabinet, shelf or the entire room before putting back the items. I have found that I love my space a lot more if it’s clean. Anyone else feel that way?
TIP
Have a place nearby the kitchen to write down any food items you run out of so that when you go to the grocery store you can just snap a picture for an instant list. I love having a large framed white board for this purpose.
A home for everything and everything in its place – this is what I like to tell my kids.
I love to be organized, and I’m always looking for better, more efficient ways to do it. I find that hooks, baskets, plastic containers and drawer dividers are my friends. Just imagine a kitchen without cabinets! Even within those cabinets I have systems to keep things from getting messy.

PAINT
Paint can transform anything from an entire room to an old vase. I recently painted my kitchen. I even ordered my paint online and picked it up curbside at Sherwin Williams. Quick and easy!

RE-ARRANGE
Perhaps your living room seating can take on a new view? Maybe you can swap the lamps in your living room for the ones in a bedroom? I also recommend moving around your decor from room to room. Maybe you have a few items in a closet that haven’t seen the light of day in a while. Try a different grouping of items on a shelf and instantly it’s like having something new.
I switched out some things along this wall for my spring home tour. Here I show you how to style a console table 6 different ways!
GREENERY
Pick up a plant from the hardware store or a small bouquet of flowers from the local grocer. You can even clip some flowers or branches from your yard and put them in a vase. This instantly adds life and beauty to your home!
