This master bedroom was in need of an update. What started as a builder beige painted room with green bedding was transformed into a calm and serene neutral colored room with a few pops of color. See the design board here for this master bedroom refresh.
Table lamps or sconces? I decided to use sconces here to free up space on the nightstand for other things. I love how you can adjust the light placement for reading in bed.
Is it ok to mix metals? Yes! Gold and silver complement each other well. This gold accent mirror above the bed adds the perfect touch above the bed without being too overbearing. I selected a linen colored upholstered headboard to contrast with the dark gray accent wall behind it.
The dresser was also updated with chalk paint. This one went from dark brown to a light gray with updated drawer pulls. See the before and after pictures? What an amazing difference a few coats of paint makes!
This large master bedroom has a sitting area on one end of the room. Lots of natural light floods the room throughout the day. One of favorite tips is to layer your window treatments. Roman shades plus drapery panels soften the window frame and provide privacy plus block out the sun. These are heavy blackout panels, which do a great job of keeping the sunlight out in the early morning hours. The look is still simple and clean looking. The dark gray stripe detail ties in with the accent wall.
The walls are painted Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams, and the accent wall is Dovetail, also by Sherwin Williams. These colors complement each other nicely. One tip: always test your paint color in your room before purchasing paint, and notice how the color looks throughout the day. The lighting in the room will have an effect on the color and will bring out the undertones. While a certain paint color will look one way in one room, it can look totally different in another room.
I love white bedding because it looks clean, and you can mix and match the pillows with different colors, prints and textures. This white bedding has a striped detail that gives it a bit of a hotel feel. You can easily change out the pillows with the seasons too.
See this post for 7 steps to make your bed.
One look at the sitting area. Another tip when hanging drapes. Hang them high and wide. Raise them as high as you can above the window and then at least 4″-6″ on either side of the window. Various pillows of similar colors and accessories bring cohesiveness to the bedroom.
