The kitchen truly is the heart of the home. So much goes on in this space from cooking and preparing meals to homework and crafts. I love a light and bright kitchen so I chose light cream colored cabinetry, but I also love contrasting colors which is why I chose a deep brown color for the island. I chose to keep the kitchen simple and modern in design with shaker cabinets and long, slender pulls. Glass cabinets not only break up the monotony of the doors but they also allow you to see what’s inside. In this cabinet I keep our dishes we use everyday. That makes it easy for unloading the dishwasher as well as finding what you need quickly.
The color of my kitchen walls is called Sanderling. It’s a combination of taupe and brown. What I like about these colors (taupe, cream and brown) is that they are warm, yet calming in the often busy space. I can also bring in other colors as accents and they will pop against the neutrals.
This little boxwood wreath hangs above the cooktop for an added pop of color.
This is so easy to replicate! One small boxwood wreath, some black and white gingham ribbon and a clear command hook will do the job.
When planning our kitchen, I knew I wanted stainless steel appliances. For me, they never go out of style. These small shelves on either side of my ovens are perfect for holding decorative items such as bowls, candles or a vase, but they are items I can grab to use at a moment’s notice.
I like to use white bowls to hold my fruit. That helps keep the counter clean and tidy. We get a lot of natural light throughout the day, especially in the afternoon and evening. I had this roman shade custom made to fit the window. I also have these in the adjoining family room. I like roman shades, especially in the kitchen because they give a clean look, and since I have window moldings I think the shade looks best inside the molding rather than the outside of it. If I didn’t have the molding around the window, then I would opt to mount the shade on the outside of the window. This particular shade isn’t room darkening, but it does block the light when lowered.
I like to use large pendants over an island. These make a big statement and provide an extra layer of light in addition to the recessed lighting here. Thank you for stopping by!
