I love a quote that reads, “kitchens bring families together,” If you think about it, it’s the one place where we share stories, laughs, and special moments with our friends and family. So being that it is known as the heart of the home, it must reflect our lifestyle and design style. That’s why, if you’re in the mood to spruce up your kitchen this year, you don’t want to miss all of these tips to make your kitchen renovation project a success.
What To Consider When Renovating a Kitchen
Before jumping into the details, there are some starting steps in your kitchen renovation project you need:
For more information about how to plan your kitchen remodel,
check out this previous post.
Now that we've discussed the starting point let’s head into the details of what you should consider for your next kitchen remodel.
If you love to entertain and have people over all the time, consider opting for an open kitchen. That’s the best option for making people feel welcome, and it's easy to lay out and transport the food and drinks.
But if you have small kids, you might want to consider a different layout. A well-designed kitchen layout can make all the difference in terms of functionality and efficiency. Consider the work triangle, which is the distance between the stove, sink, and refrigerator. This triangle should be efficient, allowing you to move easily between the three areas.
In this project, my clients were looking to entertain. So we extended the island and curved it at the end for custom bar stools for our clients. Then we included outlets there for everyone to have a place to charge their phone.
Do you love blue shades as much as I do? If so, you do not want to miss my previous post about Modern Coastal Design.
Another essential thing to consider in your kitchen remodel is the storage space you need. Think about the types of items you will be storing and the best way to organize them. One of the most asked questions is if you should go for drawers or cabinets, and the answer is simple: it depends on your kitchen layout and the amount of space you need.
Yes, you can have all drawers in a kitchen, and personally I love drawers, but you might just want to consider adding shelves for aerial space to break up the cabinets' monotony and give you a place to set up more decorative bowls, pitchers, or glassware. Check out this previous blog post, where I talk about 5 easy ways to update your kitchen now.
If cabinets are your thing, consider updating the hardware and painting them for a completely different look, like we did in this project.
Ask yourself how many people cook in the house and if you have enough prep space. In some projects, we consider adding a prep sink to make cooking easier.
In this project, we did an upgrade to make this kitchen into a modern retreat. The openness of the layout allows multiple people in and out without disturbing anyone. My favorite thing in this project is perhaps the timeless white kitchen meets modern. By
updating the lighting and accent decor, we transformed this kitchen into the perfect place for entertaining!
I love how little things, such as the hardware, can make a huge difference in the kitchen. When choosing hardware for your kitchen remodel, ask yourself if you want pulls, knobs, or a combo? For example, I like pulls for the drawers and knobs for cabinet doors.
For this project, we wanted a dreamy white kitchen but added warmth with gold hardware. It gives the whole kitchen a brighter look. We also played with the different sizes of the pulls to ensure variety and practicality.
Proper lighting can improve the functionality and space of your kitchen. Consider adding task lighting under cabinets and over workspaces, as well as ambient lighting to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Also, make sure you read this article where I share my ultimate guide for pendant lighting in your kitchen.
So as you can see, in every kitchen remodel, there are specific details you don’t want to miss. Hiring a designer saves you time and headaches and prevents you from making costly mistakes. The best thing about my services is that you can choose whether you need my
