In all my years as an interior designer, I’ve heard expressions or beliefs about our profession, field, and work scope. If you heard some of these, they may be withholding you from hiring an interior designer. That’s why I set myself a challenge to debunk some of those commonly spread myths and present you with the reality of what it’s like to work with an interior designer. Keep on reading!
I wanted to start with this one because it’s one of the most common misconceptions. Any renovation or decorating process will require an investment, whether you do it by yourself or you hire an expert. But what most people oversee is that making the wrong choice can cause delays in your projects, the results may not be of the quality that you visualized, you’ll get overwhelmed or stressed, and eventually end up spending more money.
Instead, I propose that you think about it this way: your home is your best asset. Wouldn’t you want it to become a place that you love? Have that dream kitchen, or perhaps that spectacular living room that brings the family together?
When a professional is leading your project or sharing their expertise, you can make the best decisions possible, fulfill your design goals, and make the most of your money.
I got you. We live in a time where we want everything done A-S-A-P. That’s why you may be thinking that hiring an interior designer is not the right choice when on the contrary, it may end up saving you time.
When you hire a professional to guide you through your home renovation or decorating project,
they are governed by an initial plan, in which they reflect their clients’ decorating styles, inspirations, vision, time frame, and budget. So you know what to expect, every step of the way. As with every plan, there may be possible delays, that are out of their control, especially on the supplier or manufacturer side. The good thing is that a designer can always suggest the best alternatives that will set you on the best path forward.
Sure, we do have our favorite decorating styles, but when it comes to starting a new project with our clients, the first thing that we do is to help them understand their decorating style. What aesthetics they relate to, their lifestyle, the concepts, and the mood they want in their home, to mention a few. Based on these answers, we create a design plan for your room.

Remember that a designer works for you, and helps you achieve your vision for a space, make better decisions and reduce stress.
Have you ever found yourself saying this phrase? If so, let me tell you that interior designers see every project as a white canvas waiting to become a work of art. So when it comes to a renovation or decorating process, don’t diminish your space. Reduced spaces can become great opportunities to create something great according to your taste. In fact, some of the benefits of decorating small rooms include:
Designer tip: Do you have a small space you want to make bigger? Use mirrors! The reflection, combined with daylight will create an optical illusion and increase the size of your room
Given our unprecedented times, I believe sustainability needs to be at the forefront of every design project. When I take on a new project,
I assess through a consultation
if the furniture is at the end of its life and needs to be replaced.
This may depend on the current state of the furniture, the scope of the project, and your design style. There may be even some pieces of furniture that will fit perfectly with certain projects,
just like this one in which we kept the club chairs to bring warmth and classical style to this living room.
An interior designer is not only a decorator but a professional who has studied every aspect of a home. From construction materials, layouts, floor plans, aesthetics, to key elements and their functionality. That’s why hiring an interior designer goes a little further than making things pretty. Your designer can assist in selecting materials and finishes going in your space such as flooring, tile, countertops, fixtures, lighting, cabinetry, hardware and paint colors, etc. A designer can shop with you online or at a local store to help you select the best pieces for your space from rugs and lamps to art and accessories.
You can have peace of mind that everything will coordinate together and not feel overwhelmed by making all of those decisions yourself.
As you can see, there are a lot more benefits when it comes to working with a designer, so if you’re ready to get one step ahead of the game and turn your home into a place you’ll love, book a free call with me to discuss your project.
