The reveal is usually the most exciting part for remodeling projects.
If you read the first part of this project, you’ll see that remodeling my backyard was an idea that started due to the pandemic. The idea was to make a special place to decompress and relax. So, as a special summer edition, I want to share the details of this unique remodel. Keep on reading to find out more!
Since revamping a patio is not something you frequently do, choosing a strong and durable material is vital. That’s why we chose paver stones for our backyard.
Pavers, compared to other materials, may be more costly, but in the long run, you save money and effort by installing a quality and durable product. If installed properly, pavers can last for many years, and you will enjoy your patio or backyard with zero to minimal maintenance.
Another thing to consider is that pavers come in various shapes and sizes, making them so convenient to create your desired layout. There are also a variety of colors and shapes to suit your style.
Another thing I want to add before jumping into the details of the remodeling process is some of the must-haves for your outdoor patio:
Now that you know these facts let’s head into the specifics of this renovation project.
As I mentioned in this post, every design I lead starts with a plan. One of the critical elements of this plan is the mood board because it allows you to grab inspiration, not only from the looks but from the feeling you want to reflect.

The original mood board was this:
We knew we wanted to have some vital elements of the transitional style, some neutrals, with a pop of color to create contrast, as well as critical pieces to make a statement, especially those made out of natural elements to give that outdoorsy spirit.
The lighting was another add-on that we considered since we wanted to use our backyard at night, especially for conversations around the newly revamped fire pit.
Lastly,
the rug is one of my favorite elements since it compliments the space, adding a touch of warmth and coziness to the seating area.
I changed some things a bit. I decided to include coral/orange in the design to compliment the Adirondack chairs around the fire pit. The rug, of course, pulls everything together.
My contractor suggested adding a privacy wall, which is the perfect spot to mount a TV if we decide. It also gives this space a sense of intimacy and serves as a protector from the other elements, since it tends to get a bit windy and stormy here in the south.
Like I always say, you must have some greenery, especially on your patio. I combined faux and natural plants and flower pots.
One thing to note as well is the structure. As you can see from this before shot, we had our contractor wrap the posts in a composite material and paint the same color as the trim on the house.
For the ceiling, our contractor used a system that collects rainwater from the deck and drains via a downspout on the side of the deck. The patio is always dry underneath the deck, and we love that! We installed some recessed lighting and a ceiling fan. The trim on the ceiling adds just enough detail to make it interesting.
Loving the look? Recreate it on your patio:
Furniture is one of the most crucial decisions. You want to select pieces that are durable and easy to clean. The cushions must be easy to clean, weatherproof, and made from long-lasting materials. Since our patio space is on the small side, this patio set checked the boxes for me.
My advice here is that you consider both: comfort and quality. Since you’re already making a significant investment, you might as well focus on selecting those pieces that make a difference and will match your whole house look.
If you’re in the market for some quality pieces, my recommendation is to go with the following options:
Adding a fire pit was the best idea ever!
I love how it creates a focal point for the backyard. And I love these
Adirondack-style chairs. They are very comfortable and very affordable since I wanted to have 6 of them. The wood from the chairs stands out from the greenery around them.
I love creating outdoor spaces just as much as indoor ones. You only have to book a free call with me today to get started!
