Remodeling a kitchen or furnishing a living room is very exciting for me, and it should excite you too! To give you some insight into what I do as a designer, I’m going to walk you through the design consultation, which is the first part of working with me at An Inspiring Home. Let's go behind the scenes: at the design consultation.
I typically receive inquiries from potential clients by email or phone. A great way to contact me is by booking a 15-minute discovery call, which is free of charge. This in addition to an online questionnaire which helps us determine if we are a good fit for each other.
If you decide you’re interested in
working with me, I’ll set up a 2-hour design consultation with you. This is a paid consultation because I’m sharing my time, my eye for design, and lots of critical thinking and brainstorming. As I take a tour of your space, I’ll offer ideas for how you can move your project forward in the most effective way possible.
During the design consultation, we’ll discuss 3 main topics: lifestyle, process, and budget.
LIFESTYLE | We’ll discuss the way you want to live in your home. Everybody has a different lifestyle, and I want to make sure I’m catering to your unique needs. We’ll talk about your style and color preferences, as well as what is and isn’t working for you in your current design situation. Do you have a piece of furniture you love and want to incorporate into the design? The design consultation is the time to tell me that! The work I do for you is personalized to YOUR lifestyle, so I want your home to look and feel like YOU.
PROCESS | I’ll tell you more about what it’s like to work with An Inspiring Home and how I approach design projects. We’ll talk about the phases of my design process and everything that’s involved. My ultimate goal is to provide you with a space you love, which is going to take some time. After all, great design doesn’t happen overnight!
BUDGET | Many design clients don’t know how much it costs to fully furnish a room, so we’re going to talk about that during our consultation. Money is an important factor in design, so I’ll provide a budget worksheet to help you decide how much you’re willing to invest. We’ll also talk about my design fees and the value that I bring to the table.
Finally, we’ll discuss things like communication, my working hours, what to expect from me, and what I expect from you. I like to clear up the logistics right from the start! We’ll also talk about furniture lead times (which can be pretty long due to the pandemic) and freight/delivery of items.
Read this post on What to Expect When Working With a Designer During a Pandemic for lots of good info.
After our consultation, I’ll create a consultation report along with a proposal for working with me. We'll have a 30 min. Zoom call where I'll go over everything with you - the scope of work, estimated furnishings investment and approximate timeline.
The design consultation is a great time for us to lay out clear expectations for each other. I want you to understand what it’s like to work with an interior designer, and I want to hear your expectations for me as well! I hope you enjoyed behind the scenes: at the design consultation.
