The Value of Hiring an Interior Designer
July 7, 2020

Have you ever thought about hiring an interior designer? I want to explain the value of hiring an interior designer, which will save you time, money and stress.

DESIGNERS SAVE YOU TIME

Do you wander around Homegoods for a couple of hours looking for items for your home and come out with nothing? Do you spend time browsing online at Pottery Barn looking for home furnishings but can’t decide what will look best after an hour or two? I'm guessing you have better things to do with your time.

DESIGNERS SAVE YOU MONEY

Have you ever purchased a rug only to realize it was too small for your living room? Have you ever bought a sofa for your living room, and after it was delivered you realized it’s too big? You either have to live with your purchase or take the time to return the items. In both cases you’ve lost time and money.

DESIGNERS THINK OUT OF THE BOX

Interior designers are trained to think creatively. While you’re thinking about painting the walls a neutral color, a designer can show you other options to really make a room stand out. There’s usually more than one way to layout the furniture in your living room and a designer can show you those options since we do this kind of thing everyday.

designers work with contractors

Let's say you're remodeling your bathroom and your contractor asks you questions like, "How high do you want your sconces?" or "How far out do you want this tile to come?" or "Did you pick a grout color?"

A designer can help you with all of us because we all know that if you don't have an answer to the contractor's questions, he/she will just do what they think, and you may not like the result. So, save yourself some time, money and headache and hire a designer.

DESIGNERS KNOW COLOR

Do you stress over paint colors? A designer can help you select color combinations that work well together, even with your existing finishes. Many homeowners will select a neutral based room, which is fine, however if you want your room to stand out, then talk to a designer. Designers have been trained to know how to put color palettes together as well as the feeling that a color can bring to a room.

YOU WANT CUSTOM PIECES

Want a great quality, custom living room sofa with a performance fabric that will last you for years to come? A designer can source items that are high quality, custom, to-the-trade only pieces that fit your room and your lifestyle.

Or perhaps you want to update your window treatments but aren't sure how to pull it together. Your designer has access to thousands of fabrics and trim and can create something you are going to love.

ANOTHER SET OF EYES FOR YOUR PROJECT

You may already be a creative person, but sometimes you need someone else to come in and give you some direction. When you’ve stared at the same thing for a long time, your brain tends to go numb.

DESIGNERS CAN ENVISION A ROOM’S POTENTIAL

Have you ever been house hunting and you walk into a home and there’s black and pink floral wallpaper, pink carpet, black and pink floral furnishings, etc.? Well, I have! No joke. Some people may turn right around and walk out because they can’t see beyond that. A designer can see past that and can envision the room in a different way.

DESIGNERS CAN CREATE A SPACE THAT IS YOURS

Do you want your home to look and feel like you live there? Sure, that living room in your favorite retail catalog looks great, but it’s not personalized to you and your family’s taste. A designer can give you a pulled together, curated look that also meets the needs and wants of your family and has a personal touch.

Getting started

If you’ve thought about hiring an interior designer, let me explain how to get started working with me.

First, we have a phone call to make sure I’m the right designer for you and your project is a good fit for me. This is at no cost and you can schedule that online here.

Next, I set up a consultation with you. This can be done in person or over Zoom or Facetime if you are not local to the Charlotte, NC area. You can read Behind the Scenes at the Design Consultation here.

During our consultation I get to know you and your family, your needs and wants, your style and more about what it is you want to happen in your home. I can help you figure out your style too. At the consultation you will learn a lot more about your project and what it's like working with me.
